Eine aufstrebende britische Band lehnt den Eurovision Song Contest ab, weil sie dieses Jahr in Israel zu Gast ist.

Die Drei-Mädchen-Band The Tuts bestätigte ihre Entscheidung auf Twitter und sorgte für eine Gegenreaktion der Anhänger Israels.

Die Band wurde jedoch auch dafür gelobt, dass sie sich der von Israel begangenen Menschenrechtsverletzungen bewusst war und sich der Auswirkungen ihrer Beteiligung auf die Normalisierung der Besatzung bewusst war.

Palästinensische Kulturgruppen und Journalisten fordern einen Boykott des diesjährigen Eurovision-Wettbewerbs, seit es angekündigt wurde, dass Israel die jährliche transnationale Veranstaltung veranstalten wird.

“Hätte die Eurovision den Wettbewerb in der südafrikanischen Apartheid abgehalten?”, Fragte eine im vergangenen Jahr vom palästinensischen Journalistenverband unterzeichnete Erklärung und ein Netzwerk palästinensischer Kulturorganisationen.

Im September kündigte die European Broadcasting Union (EBU) an, dass der Wettbewerb nach weltweiter Kritik und Angst vor Boykotts in Tel Aviv und nicht in Jerusalem stattfinden wird .

Eine Kampagne in Irland, in der Songwriter zum Boykott der Eurovision 2019 aufgerufen werden, hat auch die Unterstützung von mehr als 60 Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens erlangt. Die Teilnahme an der Veranstaltung gilt als Verrat an dem palästinensischen Volk.

Mit Unterstützung der USA hat Israel diejenigen, die BDS unterstützen, lange beschuldigt, antisemitisch zu sein, und Druck auf ausländische Regierungen und Organisationen ausgeübt, um sich gegen die Bewegung zu stellen. Im Jahr 2017 drohte Tel Aviv mit einer Klage gegen Amnesty International, nachdem es eine neue Kampagne gestartet  hatte,  die ein Verbot von aus Siedlungsprodukten hergestellten Produkten forderte. Israel hat ebenfalls eine  schwarze  Liste mit 22 NGOs aus Europa, den Vereinigten Staaten, Südamerika und Afrika veröffentlicht, deren Angehörige oder Mitglieder wegen ihrer angeblichen Unterstützung der BDS-Kampagne nicht in Israel einreisen dürfen.
